Junior Coders

Designed for young coders ages 8-11, this Coding Camp starts by teaching aspiring game designers to learn Scratch's dynamic interactive game creation & story telling platform. Students will learn how to animate characters, build creative games, and create fun stories with a dynamic visual coding block environment. They will also learn to create simple interactive mobile apps with Bitsbox! Campers will be introduced to text-based coding with the fun “Robo Boogie” curriculum, which teaches coding basics, including variables, inputs and game animations. Campers can easily share their apps to any mobile device. No prior experience is required. This camp provides a great foundation for Coding 101.

Coding 101

This STEM Summer Coding Camp teaches what it truly means to code, allowing students to develop their problem-solving skills using a hands-on, interactive format. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming, including syntax, code commenting, control structures and more. This is the first step to learning to code! Students begin with the use of the Karel educational programming language developed at Stanford University, and provides a brief introduction to JavaScript. Advanced Robotics: Design Challenge

This robotics camp utilizes the robust, aircraft-grade aluminum TETRIX robotics building system, which features powerful 12V motors and a dynamic electronics distribution. Using open-ended robotics design principles, campers will work in teams to conceptualize and prototype their robots. Their efforts will result in a functional robot capable of performing various tasks in timed trials. Using gaming system-style controllers to drive their robots, they will test their remote driving skills as they navigate through maze-like courses while moving objects from one location to another. It is recommended, but not required, that campers have previous robotics experience.

This course introduces campers to the Arduino electronics prototyping platform. Campers will learn about Arduino programming (C++), breadboard prototyping, and various types of electronic components. Using a text based code editor, campers will program microcontrollers to perform various tasks; this may include operating LEDs, reading sensors, turning motors, or outputting data to an LCD screen. This class prepares campers to participate in our Sumo Bots camp, where they will use the Arduino language to program a small robot for a variety of different tasks.

This robotics camp utilizes the robust, aircraft-grade aluminum TETRIX robotics building system, which features powerful 12V motors and a dynamic electronics distribution. Using open-ended robotics design principles, campers will work in teams to conceptualize and prototype their robots. Their efforts will result in a functional robot capable of performing various tasks in timed trials. Using gaming system-style controllers to drive their robots, they will test their remote driving skills as they navigate through maze-like courses while moving objects from one location to another. It is recommended, but not required, that campers have previous robotics experience.
