Junior Coders: Code & Design
with Scratch

Held in educational partnership with UCCS, and specifically designed for young Coders ages 8-11, this Coding Camp starts by teaching aspiring game designers Scratch, a dynamic interactive game creation & storytelling platform from MIT. Students will learn how to animate characters, build creative games, and create fun stories with a visual block coding environment. Students will also learn to create simple interactive mobile apps with Bitsbox! Students will be introduced to text-based coding and coding basics, including variables, inputs and game animations. Students can easily share their apps to any mobile device. No prior experience is required. This camp provides a great foundation for Coding 101.

Go from concept to the completion of a fully functional 2D game with FlowLab, Students will learn the criticality of fast prototyping and the iterative design culture found in many tech companies, and the importance of “failing early” in order to perfect a game. Students will learn: 1) Sprite Creation, 2) Terrain & World Design, 3) Animation, Physics & Effects, 4) Sprite Behaviors. If you can dream it, you can make it with this powerful, but intuitive wireframe-based development platform. Game design campers will impress their friends with their exciting, interactive cross-platform game creations!

Held in educational partnership with UCCS, this STEM Summer Coding Camp teaches what it truly means to code, allowing students to develop their problem-solving skills using a hands-on, interactive format. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming, including syntax, code commenting, control structures and more. This is the first step to learning to code! Students begin with the use of the Karel educational programming language developed at Stanford University, and provides a brief introduction to JavaScript. This camp prepares students to participate in our JavaScript Programming camp.
